Rachel Shaver

birthday: May 15, 1982
funniest/most memorable birthday: A friend of mine threw me a huge bash for my 20th birthday. It was a beautiful night, complete with a homemade birthday cake, lots of laughing, and twinkle lights. I love twinkle lights.
where were you born: Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas
brothers/sisters: Diane (married to Bryce), Paul (married to Erinn), and David
favorite foods: Hash brown casserole and strawberry pie
favorite color: Green
what I do to relax: Clean my house (rearrange, organize, purge, etc.)
what I do for fun: Frolic
my biggest pet peeve: Surprises, I hate surprises.
what's in your cd player right now? Etta James
something others would be surprised to know about me: My family had a paper route for 12 years, and I have killer aim; I only broke two flowerpots in those 12 years.
and the dinner question: any five dinner guests, dead or alive: Whoever thought up Home Depot because I have a deep-seated appreciation for this person; C.S. Lewis because he's C.S. Lewis; my parents when they were in their 20s, although I might be bending the rules on this one; Maya Angelou because she knows why the caged bird sings; and Jamie Oliver because somebody has to cook!
favorite Bible verse(s): Ruth, Ephesians 3:14-21, Psalm 86:11, and Psalm 56:8
all time favorite books (other than Bible): The Weight of Glory; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?; To Kill a Mockingbird; Ragamuffin Gospel; and the Thesaurus
a memorable spiritual experience in your life: The first time I heard this prayer of Betty Stam's, a martyred missionary, my life changed. "Lord, I give up my own plans and purposes, all my own desires and hopes, and accept Thy will for my life. I give up myself, my time, my all, utterly to Thee to be Thine forever. Fill me and seal me with Thy Holy Spirit. Use me as Thou wilt. Send me where Thou wilt. Work out Thy whole will in my life, at my cost, now and forever."
the most rewarding thing about your job: I guess it would be knowing that what I do has a direct effect on what chemicals people, animals, and the environment are exposed to, which is rewarding because I'm indirectly ensuring people's safety.
when I'm gone, what I want others to say about me: What a peach!
your favorite childhood pet & it's name: My Old English Sheepdog Bobby (I didn't name him.)
most embarrassing moment: I was at a friend's baseball game in college, and my hall mate Megan commented about one of the players being attractive, and then I pointed to the short stop and said, "Oh, but look at number 22. Wow." Then the lady behind me leaned up and said, "Number 22? Oh, honey, that's my son."
most influential person in your life (besides Jesus): As a whole, it would be my family, but which member of my family depends on the topic. For instance, if it involves cars, employment, theology, medicine, life plans, or home improvement, then it would be my dad. If it involves spending money, education, or traveling, then it would be my mom. My sister covers recipes, boys, daily life, and spastic moments. My brother Paul covers anything technological, 401K plans, and novelties. And my brother David assures me that everyone else is crazy, and I'm going to be ok.
