They brought out this huge box shaped like a McD's building and it was full of toys (probably the equivilant of happy meal toys!) All the kids went wild trying to get into that box! Also, my 30th birthday was really neat. My husband TRIED to surprise me, but I found out about it like a month before. I still went along with the surprise. It was still special thought, because of all the people that came and my sister had decorated everything with old pictures of me (scary!!)

Michael Hamline
birthday: October 5th, 1977
funniest/most memorable birthday: During my 10th or 9th grade year I was attending boarding school. My parents traveled 4-5 hours from another country to take me into town for the weekend and celebrate my birthday. They were several hours late because of a fender bender they had with an army truck (In Kenya it doesn’t matter who really caused the wreck it is always the foreigner’s fault). Anyway, I began to believe they had forgot me and became very upset. My roommates kept trying to encourage me-It looks kind of funny to see a 15-16 year old guy cry. However, my parents did show up in the end and it was a good birthday weekend.

funniest/most memorable birthday: When Jeff & I were dating (this was 1996, I turned 24) he went to great lengths to get me this great present for my birthday. Back in my hometown of Schroon Lake, NY, there was an antique shop with a copy of Paradise Lost with cool illustrations by Gustave Dore that I really loved. I would go into the store to look at it, but not buy it (too expensive). So Jeff called my parents, had them get the little old man who owned the shop (but didn't open after Labor Day) to open the store and sell them the book, they shipped it to California. He took me out to a nice restaurant for dinner (cool view of LA) and gave me the book. When I didn't cry he was like "you didn't even cry or anything! I thought you would cry!" He said the same thing after our engagement...what does that mean do you suppose?
